Final Call for papers: The 4th Annual Conference of Asia ESP & the 9th Chinese National Symposium on ESP

Dear friends and colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the 4th Annual Conference of Asia ESP & the 9th Chinese National Symposium on ESP will be held from 17 to 19 August, 2021 in Nanning, Guangxi after the postponement of the original date due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It will be hosted by the School of Foreign Languages of Guangxi University.
In January 2021, the Ministry of Education issued a notice to officially add “interdisciplinary subjects” as the 14th discipline in China. Interdisciplinary disciplines and research have become the direction of new engineering, new medical science, new agricultural science and new liberal arts. ESP, the study of the language of various disciplines in English, will play a more active role in the construction of interdisciplinary disciplines. Thus, it is decided that the theme of this conference is: The Construction of ESP in an Interdisciplinary Context.
We invite paper presentations, poster presentations and thematic panels and workshops that address any aspect of the conference theme including but not exclusively limited to the following themes of the conference:
● ESP language studies
● ESP course design
● ESP research & teaching method innovation
● EAP and EOP teaching and research
● ESP education policy
● ESP material development & design
● ESP testing & assessment
● ESP corpus-driven study & teaching
● Cross-cultural studies in ESP context
● Other related research
You may choose one of the following formats except for 1 and 2.
1. Keynote speeches by 4 or 5 speakers (to be confirmed)45 minutes per speaker

3. Workshops
About 4 sessions with a common theme. Each workshop consists of 4 speakers

Keynote Speakers
Hajime Terauchi, Professor of English language Education and President of Takachiho University in Tokyo, and a former President of the JACET. He received his BA in Civil Law from Keio University and MA and PhD in English Language Teaching from University of Warwick (UK).
Viviana Cortesreceived her PhD in Applied Linguistics from Northern Arizona University and worked for the Program of Applied Linguistics and TESL at Iowa State University before starting her current position (associate professor) at Georgia State University in the fall of 2008. Her research interests include English grammar, corpus-based discourse analysis, formulaic language, and academic writing, as well as English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and the use of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) in higher education.
Vu Thi Thanh Nhareceived her MA TESOL from Vietnam National University, PhD in Education from the University of New South Wales, Australia. She is currently the dean of the Faculty of English, the University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam National University (ULIS). Before working at ULIS, Nha was responsible for teaching and developing syllabi for General English and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU.
Jigang Caiis a full professor at the Foreign Languages and Literature Department of Fudan University, Shanghai, China. He is currently President of the Chinese Association for ESP. In addition, he works for the Shanghai government as Chair of the Shanghai Advisory Committee on EFL teaching at Tertiary Level. His research interests include contrastive linguistics to applied linguistics and ESP/EAP studies. He has been promoting the implementation of ESP and EAP at the tertiary level in mainland China.
Youzhong Sunis currently professor and vice president of Beijing Foreign Studies University, director of Foreign Language and Literature Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education, chair of China English Language Education Association, executive vice chair of Translators Association of China, chair of China Association for Intercultural Communication, vice chair of The Chinese Association of American Studies, editor-in-chief of International Forum, Chinese Journal of ESP, Intercultural Studies Form and Chinese Journal of Australian Studies. His research interests include foreign language education, cross-cultural studies and American studies.
Winnie Chengis former Professor, and former Director of Research Centre for Professional Communication in English (RCPCE), of Department of English, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is a founding fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of the Humanities. Her research interests include corpus linguistics, conversation analysis, critical discourse analysis, discourse intonation, EAP, ESP, intercultural communication, pragmatics, and writing across the curriculum.
Chensong Yanis a Junwu Special-Term Professor of Guangxi University, on the faculty of School of Foreign Languages. He is Professor Emeritus of the PLA University of Foreign Languages. Prior to retirement, he was a professor of English, PhD supervisor in linguistics, and the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of PLA University of Foreign Languages. He received both his MA and PhD degrees in linguistics from Sun Yat-Sen University and was a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He served a term of four years as Vice-President of the China Association of Comparative Studies between English and Chinese (CACSEC), and is currently a Standing Director of the association. His research interests cover functional-cognitive linguistics and research methodology in social sciences. He has been working on the study of modern Chinese, and the contrastive study between English and Chinese.

Call for Outstanding Annual Conference Papers
The Chinese Association for ESP will select 20 outstanding conference papers from the annual ESP conference: 3 first prizes, 7 second prizes and 10 third prizes will be awarded with the selected papers published in Chinese Journal of ESP. Teachers interested in competing for the award must submit a full paper to chinaespc@163.com one month prior to the ESP conference for review. Awards will be presented at the closing ceremony of the conference.

经学会理事讨论,暂停一年后的“亚洲ESP学会第四届年会暨全国第九届专门用途英语研讨会”将于2021年8月17日—19日在广西南宁市举行,由亚洲ESP学会和中国英汉语比较研究会专门用途英语专业委员会主办,188金宝搏官网 承办,我们诚邀您莅临广西大学参加亚洲ESP学会第四届年会暨全国第九届专门用途英语研讨会。届时,主办方将邀请国际ESP领域著名专家学者、教育实践家与您共同分享ESP研究和实践的最新成果,共同展望未来ESP发展方向并探讨合作之途。本次会议不但包括国际ESP领域著名专家学者主旨发言,更将组织论文报告、论坛、专家引领工作坊等多种交流形式。
一、会议主题与范围
2021年1月,国务院学位委员会、教育部印发通知,将“交叉学科”正式新增为我国第14个学科门类。交叉学科已成为新工科、新医科、新农科和新文科的发展方向。ESP的经典定义是用英语研究各学科的语言。因此,ESP在交叉学科建设中将发挥其积极的作用。为此经过讨论,我们将本次大会的主题确定为:学科交叉背景下的ESP内涵建设。
为保证与会代表畅所欲言,会议将兼顾各方兴趣及热点所在,欢迎各位踊跃投稿,分享您的创新实践与研究。您的兴趣所在可以是学科交叉背景下以下任何一项或几项:

二、会议形式
1)国外专家主旨发言
Hajime Terauchi,英国华威大学英语语言教育学博士,东京高千穗大学校长,教授,博士生导师,曾任日本大学英语教育学会会长。
Viviana Cortes,北亚利桑那大学应用语言学博士,佐治亚州立大学副教授,《专门用途英语》期刊编委。研究兴趣:英语语法、基于语料库的语篇分析、程式化语言、学术写作、专门用途英语、英语作为教学语言(EMI)。
Vu Thi Thanh Nha,越南河内国家大学英语教育学硕士,澳大利亚新南威尔士大学教育学博士,越南河内国家大学下属社会与人文科学大学(ULIS)英语学院教授、院长。研究兴趣:项目式学习、教育变革、英语作为教学语言(EMI)、专门用途英语(ESP)、课堂研究、需求分析。
2)国内专家主旨发言
蔡基刚,博士,复旦大学外国语言文学学院教授,博士生导师。曾任教育部高等学校大学外语教学指导委员会副主任委员,现任全国专门用途英语研究会会长、亚洲学会专门用途英语研究会常务副会长、上海高校大学英语教学指导委员会主任。研究兴趣:对比语言学、应用语言学、专门用途英语、学术英语。
孙有中,博士,北京外国语大学副校长、教授、博士生导师,教育部高等学校外国语言文学类专业教学指导委员会主任,中国英汉语比较研究会英语教学研究分会会长,中国翻译协会常务副会长兼跨文化交流研究委员会会长,中华美国学会副会长,《国际论坛》、《中国ESP研究》、《跨文化研究论丛》、《澳大利亚研究》等期刊主编。研究兴趣:外语教育、跨文化研究、美国研究。入选“新世纪百千万人才工程”,中宣部“文化名家暨‘四个一批’人才计划”,国家 “万人计划”哲学社会科学领军人才。
Winnie Cheng,博士,香港理工大学教授,曾任英语专业交流研究中心(RCPCE)主任,香港人文学院创始人之一。研究兴趣:语料库语言学、会话分析、批评性话语分析、话语语调、学术英语、专门用途英语、跨文化交际、语用学和贯穿整个课程的写作。
严辰松,博士,广西大学君武特聘教授、博士生导师,中山大学博士,国家社科基金项目鉴定专家,中国英汉语比较研究会常务理事(原副会长)、英汉语言对比学科委员会主任、认知语言学专业委员会常务理事,曾任解放军外国语学院英语首席教授、博士生导师、《解放军外国语学院学报》主编,1996年至1997年美国加州大学圣巴巴拉分校语言学系高级访问学者。研究兴趣:功能-认知语言学、人文科学研究方法、现代汉语、英汉对比研究。
